On November 27th, Foundation Week showcased PISQians talent to play music together through an event called “That’s my Pal”. The event calls for PISQians to group together with their family and friends and play a song of their choice. Suffice to say, they didn’t disappoint. The crowd cheered on as the bands played beautiful music through their instruments. An interesting point to explore were the motivations of each of the bands. They weren’t there just to play music for a crowd.
A group of middle schoolers, that consisted of a ukulele player, drummer, guitarist. Violinist, bassist and a beautiful singer. Their reason to participate in the event was to impress their friends and impress them they did. By the end of their song, the crowd was at the edge of their as they cheered for the band.
Another band that received plenty of praise consisted of four Seniors and one Junior High School student. They Latched on the opportunity to develop their instrumental skills and improve on a field they feel passionate about. They’ve played before for a religious group called Youth For Christ (YFC) so it was to no ones surprise that their singing and instrumental plays were impressive, gathering cheers from the audience. Most of which came from the Senior High School Batch.
However, what really takes the cake for the event was a family that sung their heart out to an applauding crowd. The family sang “10,000 Reasons”, a christian song that praised the the many attributes of God’s love. The family blew away the crowd with the beautiful voices of the family, the mother and the father leaded their adorable young kids through the song. The crowd was in two with cheers, they couldn’t decide whether to cheer for the kids or the parents. They were that good! The parent’s reason for joining the competition was a noble cause too, they joined in to “boost the confidence of our children, while giving glory to god.”. Could a more humble reason exist? The family continued on to win the competition and relieve a trophy for their success.
It truly is amazing that a single event could gather such talented musicians and singers, all for varied reasons for joining. If it were not for the efforts of Mam. Bernadette C. Lozada and Sir Daniel Paduit, such talented people might not have had their chance under the spotlight and revitalized the energy of PISQ’s Foundation Day.
