Harnessing the Pen: Foundation Day Essay Writing Contest

The English Essay Contest was held at the Computer Lab in Building C2, while the Filipino Essay Contest was held at Sentro Rizal in Building E. Both contests happened on the same day and at the same time, on November 26, 2019 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.

The English and Filipino Essay Contests were handled by Ms. Jean Dacudag and Ms. Jocelyn Fajardo. Participants for the contests came from the Intermediate, Junior and Senior High School Departments. The participants were given 1 hour and 30 minutes to create captivating essays by writing on papers for the Filipino Essay Contest and typing on laptops for the English Essay Contest, following the given theme of the essays.

The themes for the English and Filipino Essay Contests connected with the theme of the school’s Foundation Day theme for the year 2019. The themes were “Strong Foundation, Strong Collaboration” for the English Essay Contest and “Matibay na Pundasyon, Kaakibay ng Matatag na Pagtutulungan” for the Filipino Essay Contest. The next day of the Foundation Day, the winners for both contests were finally announced. 

For the English Essay Contest, in the Intermediate Division, Samantha Nicole Liwanag won 1st place, followed by the 1st runner up, Hailey Ruth L. Atara. In the Junior High School Division, Marian Lovie Francia was declared as the champion, Maria Endaya as the 1st runner up, and  Allysandra Sheena G. Ali as the 2nd runner up. For the Senior High School Division, the Champion awarded was Markel Nicole Salamat, followed by the 1st runner up, Lynssay Eunice Martin.

The Filipino Essay Contest, on the other hand,in the Intermediate Division, : Excel Faith Bada won 1st place, followed by the 1st runner up, Sabrina Marie Martinez, and the 2nd runner up, Kian Mikael Colmo. In the Junior High School Division, Mylene Michelle Miranda won as the champion, Deanne Ramone Aureo as the 1st runner up, Frida Ashrein Alvaradoas the 2nd runner up,  and Allyah Sky N. Medina as the 3rd runner up. For the Senior High School Division, the Champion awarded was Germaine Armille Rentoria, followed by the 1st runner up, Theola Amprecia Q. Reago. 

One of the winners in the Essay Writing Contest, Germaine Armielle C. Rentoria was asked for a few words about their experience from the event: “I’m a bit used to writing essays in English so joining the Filipino Essay Writing Contest is definitely a different experience. I believe that essays written in our mother tongue must be propagated to many as it promotes the love for our language and our culture. It shows just how beautiful the Filipino language is.” 

Both the Filipino and English Essay Contests with their topics linked with PISQ, helped the students to write and express what they feel about the school and to also support them to love and appreciate how charming the Filipino and English language is.
