Held on December 03, 2019, at the Qatar National Convention Center, students from the Senior High School department had the honor of speaking about Climate Change and shared their ideas and innovations through the said competition. “It was tough because out of 300 videos, two of our videos were picked,” says Mr. Jaspher Tapiz, one of the coaches of the said contest. The two teams were “Earthstagram” and “Little Saplings”, who won 1st place and 2nd, respectively.
The members of the Earthstagram group, Earl Louis Quilling and Adrian Lopres of 12 STEM C, Jose Emmanuel Ventura of 12 STEM A, Julianne Caday of 11 STEM D, Janeal Agustin of 11 STEM B, and Harvey Cayetano of 11 STEM C conceptualized an application that would innovate this generation addressing Climate Change. As Julianne Caday shares, “I’m very proud for me and my team, ‘cause the organizers saw potential in us and a potential worth saving our planet.” “The application incorporates the use of social media for good and helps as a conduit to better the environment,” according to Janeal Agustin.
As for the second group, the Little Saplings members: Lara Feliciano and Salsabila Abdillah of 12 STEM A, Angela Pieres of 12 STEM B, Rizky Wibawa Utama, and Samantha Facun of 11 HUMSS A, created a Date Infused Aircon Filter that focuses on the reduction of the carbon footprint emitted by Qatar. “It was a very unforgettable experience,” says Angela Pieres. The date infused aircon filters were created through the use of date seeds and turned into activated carbon, she shares with regards to their said innovation made to combat Climate Change.
“I believe in your creativity… we know what we can do with the resources we have-- that is our great advantage,” Mr. Tapiz shares his message for the future Young Innovators. Indeed, both teams collaborated with each other to create projects that showcase their skills while also fighting for a cause they passionately believe in. Needless to say, these young innovators made PISQ proud.
