During the Philippine International School-Qatar’s 19th Founding Anniversary commemorated on November 26, 2019, students from grades 1 through 12 participated in the On-The-Spot Poster Painting Contest held at Corniche Hall, building A. They had a chance to not only showcase their talents but also share their ideas about the theme: “Solid foundation, strong collaboration.” Truly, this competition made students show their creativity and talent in the Arts field. “To enhance their skills … [because of the time limit set in the competition] this could be one of the things that help the students in handling time pressure,” says Ms. Michelle Reyes, one of the facilitators in the event.

The contest was divided into three categories: Category A for Grades 1-3, Category B for Grades 4-6, and Category C for Grades 7-12. Germielle Renzie C. Rentoria (Category A), Ashley Margaret M. Alviar (Category B), and Haera I. Guarino (Category C) bagged the championships for their respective categories.

On the same day, more students from the Intermediate, Junior High, and Senior High departments also showcased their talents in the arts. This time, through a Digital Poster Making Contest. There was one representative for each section for the three departments who also got the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas about the theme of the event.

“This event will definitely showcase their talent … they can apply all that they have learned in the past years [in editing softwares] and this can also be a way for them to express their own opinions about the theme, ” says Mr. Jefferson Rabelas, who facilitated the event. The students geared up and showed their skills when it came to digital art while incorporating their original ideas.

The awardees from the Intermediate department, Savinah Gwyneth D. Cadelinia, Charloumyr Joy B. Gutierrez, and Arden Fleny K. Torucan won the title of Champion, 1st Runner-up, and Second Runner-up, respectively. While the winners for the Junior High School Department were: Mark Erwin Pesino, champion; Ramil Andrei Tajonera, 1st runner-up; Josh Nathaniel S. Tenorio, 2nd runner-up.  As for the Senior High School, student awardees were: Christina Faith R. Joaquin, champion; Margrett B. Delos Reyes, 1st runner-up; and Julianne Carmel I. Caday, 2nd runner-up.

All students were able to express themselves through various artistic mediums and indeed did their very best all throughout the competition. This competition did not only exemplify their skills as creative young students but also highlighted their values as students of PISQ.
