PISQ once again bags the championship for the third consecutive time in the PICE (Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers) Math Whiz Competition.
The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers in Qatar (PICE) has organized this math quiz bee competition to train and expose the youth to the wonders of Mathematics. Students of our very own, the Philippine International School-Qatar, stepped up to the challenge. A prior elimination round was held among the Senior High School students where 25 pupils from each batch were taken. On October 18, the PICE Elimination round took place in PISQ where the 25 pairs had been trimmed down to only 15 pairs of students. The Semi-Finals and Finals all took place at the same time last November 1 where the 15 pairs from PISQ had been trimmed down to only five for the finals.
The Third PICE Math Whiz Competition was held last 1 November 2019 at Philippine School Doha. The top 15 participants from Philippine International School-Qatar (PISQ) and Philippine School Doha (PSD), from the Junior and Senior High School Departments, battled for the top 5 for their respective schools. The questions were asked from various fields of Mathematics such as Business Math, Physics, Geometry, Algebra, and Calculus.
The competition structure is different for every round. The Elimination Round consisted of a pen-and-paper type of test with the pairs separated from one another. The combined scores of the pairs where computed to identify who moves on to the Semi-Finals. The Semi-Finals, on the other hand, is a typical quiz bee type of test wherein students raise their whiteboards with the answer once the time is up. For this round, the pairs are working alongside each other. Lastly, the Final Round is a buzzer-beater type of test where the students compete not only with time but also with others.
The students as well as the coaches, had been training and working hard for the said competition constantly within the month of October. Trainings and practices had been managed to be done amidst the busy schedule of both sides. The seed of the sweat and efforts had all been worth it in the end as
PISQ manages to maintain its position as the champions for the said competition.
The JHS Division prepared for the competition with the assistance from their coaches, Mr. Sixto Paga Jr. and Mr. John Mark Hermedilla. The SHS Division participants, on the other hand, were coached by Mr. Mike Edison Pioquinto and Mr. Jojo Calague and PISQ once again bags the championship for the third consecutive time for the PICE Math Whiz Competition. James Fredrich A. Mina and Julianne Carmel Caday wins as the PICE-Qatar Math Whiz Champions of 2019 while Elias G. Yasa III and Theo Amperica Q. Reago takes the position of the First Runner Up for the PICE-Qatar Math Whiz Competition.
