Cassandra Venice Reyes, Jed Abraham Macalindong, and Aicee Camille Varias take the trophy as they stun the audience with their creativity in the Spoken Word Competition on November 27, 2019 in the Philippine International School - Qatar!

“At first I can’t say I wanted to join but, I wanted to try and since they saw potential in me, and they encouraged me to participate,” says Cassandra Venice when asked how she felt about being chosen as a participant. This young student stuns the audience with her words in her poem pointing out that relationships must have a strong foundation and that sometimes, these might face mishaps; however, they would not break because of their fundament.

This event was facilitated by Arnold Javier, a Filipino teacher from the Junior High School. Jed Abraham Macalindong motivates his audience as he points out that everyone has a purpose, whether it is big or small. In his poem, he inspiringly mentions that trust in oneself and others make a strong foundation and that the heart must be given importance in order to forge unbreakable bonds that help withstand obstacles.

The other Junior High School participants are Roxanne Dagsan who won the second runner-up position, Danica Castro for third runner-up, and Kristoff Carl Clariza for fourth runner-up, for grades 7 and 8. For grades 9 and 10, John Michael Robles Jr. who won the second runner-up, Christine Jaynle Dela Cruz the third runner-up, and John Gabriel Alcantara the fourth runner-up. These students left the whole department proud as they expressed themselves astoundingly, through their rhythms and verses.

Lipad, Phoenix, lipad!” hooked the audience as Aicee Camille Varias honored the PISQian spirit. She begins her poem by telling the audience the story of her first day and by divulging her mother’s “recipe” to goodness. She commended the teachers’ hard work and perseverance in helping the students to pursue their goals, and continuously highlights togetherness.

Among all other amazing poets in this competition are Lara Caitlin Baunsit who took home the second runner-up position, Hanin Maong the third runner-up, and Celene Joyce Rebato the fourth runner-up.

“I was nervous, thinking that something might go wrong; but at the same time, I was excited because you get to experience this kind of event… After everything, I didn’t even notice that it’s ended… I did my best and God did the rest… I was skeptical at first… I soon realized that these events have a connection to the school’s foundation… it also gave me the opportunity to showcase my talent,” were Celene Joyce Rebato’s views as she finished her performance.

No worries, you have constantly made your fellow PISQinas proud as you lift them up in honor and pride. Soar, Phoenix, soar!
