This year’s Social Studies Day was orchestrated by Mr. Jaspher Tapiz and the members of his Social Studies Club. They came up with the theme CONQUISTADOR 2019: “Indigenous Languages Matter for Sustainable Development, Peace - building, and Reconciliation.” There were several contests that occurred such as Your Face Sounds Familiar, Vox Populi, Culture Festival, Social Sailor’s Expedition, Word War 2.0, and Social Musical Contest.

The day started with an opening ceremony held at the NKP Playroom and supervised by the Masters of Ceremony: Alliah Raquel Sabiniano and Diego Mendoza. Then the school principal, Mr. Jason Iyas, started the program with an inspiring speech. The rules and mechanics for every contest were also explained by Mr. Jaspher Tapiz.

Right after the opening ceremony ended, the first contest began, Your Face Sounds Familiar, wherein the participants performed as iconic people of history. It was followed by the Social Sailor’s Expedition, which is a game that required the use of knowledge, logic, and speed as several teams raced to find their reward. Then came, Word War 2.0, it is a competition that uses the game Scrabble. Soon after, Model United Nations took place, it is a simulation game where the candidates represent various countries and discuss to solve world issues. Next was Vox Populi, it is a contest that incorporates the use of Extemporaneous speech and gives the competitors issues on the spot. Afterwards, Culture Festival happened. The students were given various countries and they showed their culture and information about those countries. These contests were held at different places inside the PISQ Campus. The last contest, the Social Musical Contest was held at the NKP Playroom. This contest is about the different social issues that were presented to the audience by different sections by singing and dancing. After all the contests were done, the awarding ceremony began. Different sections were able to receive awards from the various contests held. HUMSS 11-A won in Vox Populi. STEM 11-D won in Word War 2.0. STEM 12-A won in the Culture Festival. The president of STEM 12-C, Carl Vincent I. Silang was interviewed to give his feedback on the event:
Did you expect your section to win as the overall champion in the SHS CONQUISTADOR 2019?
-“I did, because we won the previous Math Quest 2019 and I expected that we would work hard to also win in the Conquistador 2019”.

How did your section prepare for this event?
- “We didn’t prepare much because of the limited time and other activities in other subjects, but with teamwork and cooperation we were able to achieve our goals as a class. Also our adviser, Ma’am Aikko inspired us. We tried very hard to win for our adviser to make her proud”.
