A Day Devoted to the Voice Behind Every Student's Success

Event: October 6, 2019 (Teacher's Day Celebration)
A celebration on the existence of teachers as an honor of their hard work that builds hope in every child’s future. Every October 5 is when appreciation and gratitude is awarded to all the teachers around the world. On Sunday morning of October 6, 2019 the PISQ community organised an all day event just for the teacher’s, which took place at the campus covered court.
A gratifying smile appeared before everyone's eyes in each of the teacher's faces as they grasp the situation they're in. The students of Philippine International School – Qatar has done it yet again, never getting tired of celebrating Teacher’s Day every year. To honor the people behind every successful person, October 6 was a special day dedicated to express gratitude towards the teacher’s of the PISQ. The year’s theme is "Gurong PISQian: Handa sa Makabagong Pagbabago" for every teacher in the school is always ready for a new beginning.
Imagine having to wake up at 3 in the morning to prepare for long hours of discussion, with a few minutes break while having to deal with people of different backgrounds on the side — this is a teacher’s everyday routine. The day started as usual with all the teachers entering the school before 6 am, soon followed by the students with small bags while carrying a plastic of food or drinks for a feast later on. The students from the Preschool, Elementary, and Intermediate Departments assembled in the covered court to start the morning ceremony by giving tribute to their teachers. After the program, the students, along with their teachers, went back to their classroom to continue the classroom program prepared by the students themselves.
It was time for the Junior and Senior High school levels to come together and watch as they witness something new. The agenda for the day kicked off with the newly elected SSG Officers having an Oath Taking Ceremony where they pledged themselves for responsibility and leadership to serve their school. The assigned emcees, Metched Cutad of Grade 12 and Lara Espiritu of Grade 10, stimulates the crowd of students with their solid teamwork and dynamic attitude. To finally begin the program, they called for Sir Jason Iyas, the school principal, to lead the opening remarks. Followed by the Students from the Junior High, showcasing different performances as a way to energize the crowd in the morning. As the performances came to an end, cheers could still be heard from the exhilarated audiences. The emcee's once again introduced another event where chosen students get to deliver heartfelt messages to the teachers. A Grade 10 Student, John Michael Robles made poetry while Sophia Ilagan, a Grade 12 Student, made a speech for the teachers that deeply touched the hearts of many.
Teachers received certificates and get to deliver messages of commitment, and lastly the intermission number prepared by the Grade 11 students. Following the performance, the closing remark coming from the school’s very own Ms. Neuwee Martinez, the school’s guidance counselor.
The fun was not over; despite the program’s end, it just got a lot better with an individual program that awaits in each classroom. A program carried out in each grade level wherein a student impersonates their adviser and teaches for hours to his/her fellow learners. After hours of having a ‘mini’ version of the teachers, it was time for the events that most students looked forward to. The classroom programs were prepared by the students themselves with all the props and food ready to go. The creative and witty students arranged a surprise for their beloved adviser in various ways: decorative classrooms, a gift, or a phone call from their family back home. These students thought of various ways to make their advisers cry out of happiness, with students giving off a triumphant smile when this is achieved. Laughs, screams, and even cries could be heard outside the hallways of each building as they enjoy their moments with their beloved adviser.
This is how the students of PISQ gratify the teachers and show them affection just like their own parents. Another day has been given to the teachers to honor the mentors behind every great person as this year marks another year of celebration to their existence. Truly, teachers must be thanked once more for devoting their life to teaching students to be successful!
