The former EIC of the Ilustrado meets the new members

The PISQ Ilustrado, the Philippine International School - Qatar’s journalism team, has welcomed their new members with a two-day online seminar on February 21 and March 5, 2021 and invited the former Editor-In-Chief, Germaine Armielle C. Rentoria, as one of the speakers.

The current Editor-In-Chief of the PISQ Ilustrado, Julianne Carmel I. Caday, hosted the seminar. Along with her were the speakers she has invited for discussing the technicalities and techniques that come with creating an effective and engaging school newspaper.

The seminar began with welcoming remarks made by one of the advisers of the Ilustrado team, Miss Lei Asis. Her warm reception to the new members involved what they would be expecting to be a part of in the following months. She then handed the floor to the three speakers for the Newswriting Department.

The first speaker is also an adviser of the Ilustrado. Ms. Mary Grace Manalo made an engaging talk about the details that go along with writing a feature article.

    She was followed by Germaine Armielle C. Rentoria, the previous Editor-in-Chief of Ilustrado, who spoke about the necessary basics of news writing. The last speaker of the News Department is Julianne Carmel I. Caday who discussed the significance of creating a powerful Editorial.

The second presenters were Moreen Nicole C. Amat and Reigart R. Sagario, the heads of the Static and Dynamic Media Department of the Ilustrado. They spoke about the controls of the camera, the editing process, and tips regarding how to incorporate their works into the articles of the writers and make it more attractive.

     The last speaker was Joris Yvan Q. Banados, the head of the Layout department.

    His presentation involved the principles of a basic layout then went on to give tips to the new layout artists, making them even more confident to create visually appealing designs.

The PISQ Ilustrado has been passed down to three Editors-In-Chief so far, and hopefully many more in the future. Once a small organization is now a big family that continues to grow and flourish through good leadership and the commitment of its members. Here’s to another prosperous year of pioneering, innovating, and progressing with this beautiful family of diverse talents and skills. Here’s to another year to the Ilustrado!
