Venue: Virtual, Zoom

The annual activity of the Senior High School in celebration of Science week was held from January 27 to 28 and was also held virtually on January 31, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

All Grade 11 and Grade 12 students were expected to participate in the intersection and inter level science competition. The program was also integrated in various activities, in which to encourage the students to understand the practical application and utility of science, to nurture the creative talents of students and to create interest in students to make science learning joyful.

The activities aimed to promote the students’ innovation and practical application of the principles used in Science. These activities include Sci-Adventure, Next-gen Mask Challenge, Sci-Experiment, Science Quiz Bee, Sci-Talk, Sci-Photo Contest, and Sci Exhibit.

First, Sci-Adventure was an activity which involves solving complex scientific problems whilst playing a game application (developed by Andre Aquino, a Grade 12 - STEM B student). Second activity was the Next-Gen Mask Challenge which targets the creativity of students in making their own medical face masks and adapting it to be more accessible, fashionable, and comfortable while still maintaining its effectiveness. The third activity was the Sci-Experiment Competition which was a pre-recorded submission of one participant’s science experiment. Fourth was the Science Quiz Bee which was a live, online event done on the day of culmination. It asked students general questions about science in a more engaging and challenging way. The fifth activity was the Sci-Talk Activity which (like the Sci-Experiment) is a pre-recorded video submission of a participant explaining a concept that is unique in Science, taking inspiration from TedTalk. Sixth event was the Sci-Photo Contest which includes three participants utilizing whatever they can in shooting and editing an interesting and creative scientific photoshoot. The seventh and final activity was the Sci-Exhibit, the crowning glory of Science Day. This activity required the participation of the whole class in order for the successful presentation of the exhibit. The students were tasked to create a physical representation of science concepts worthy of being put in a museum.

In the culminating ceremony, Ms. Agustin from grade 12-STEM B led the opening prayer, national anthems by Ms. Balani from grade 12-HUMSS A, the Welcoming remarks by Mr. Jason A. Iyas, the school principal, and the closing program led by Mr. Jojo Calague, the SHS Department Head.

The culmination of Science Day was also utilized to recognize the efforts made by the winning participants of the SHS Math Day Celebration however, the Science Week winners are still being deliberated.

Truly, this celebration is one to remember! The pandemic is a small hindrance to the unwavering passion of the teachers and students towards science. Despite the challenges of conflicting schedules, the event is still one that highlights the enthusiasm of PISQians towards learning, which is a trait that is uniquely PISQian!
