The Philippine International School-Qatar (PISQ) welcomed its students with face masks on and hand sanitizers ready as they opened on September 1, 2020. Under the orders of the Ministry of Higher Education, PISQ adopted a blended learning method to facilitate the education of its students - this is the beginning of PISQians’ new normal.
In preparation for the school’s opening, the faculty and staff of PISQ equipped the school with necessary items to ensure not only their students’ education but their safety as well. Each classroom was provided with a desktop computer and a set of peripherals for teachers to utilize during virtual classes. Hallway monitors were also stationed around the campus to monitor the students’ distance from one another. Teachers have also prepared modules as independent learning resource materials for their students to use during asynchronous learning, or commonly known as independent learning.
Parents were also given an orientation to notify them of the safety protocols the students are required to follow during their assigned face-to-face classes. Parents were also given a “peek” into PISQ’s new normal and their children’s school email address for the academic year of 2020-2021.
The faculty and staff await announcements from the Ministry of Higher Education regarding the start of regular face-to-face classes. Until then, the school will continue to implement social distancing and other safety protocols. Despite the continuous changes PISQ continues to face, their faculty and staff remain resilient to provide an efficient and healthy education, giving consideration to the students’ situation. In PISQ, they assure that no student will remain behind for we are in this together.
